House, now 2 shops and flat. Late C18 with C19 alterations
including raising third bay. Coursed squared stone with ashlar
quoins and dressings; roofs of synthetic slates and Welsh
slate with stone gable copings and brick chimney.
EXTERIOR: 2 and 3 storeys; 3-window range. Painted tooled
stone surround to low boarded yard-passage door at right of
second bay. Step up to flush door and plain overlight of No.8
at left under flat stone lintel. Plain sash to right of door.
Wide shop front in first two bays projects with central
recessed glazed door; slender Tuscan pilasters at corners;
trade sign of pair of large spectacles over fascia and door
head; shallow hood. Shop front in third bay has slender
mullions and high plain fascia, with glazed door at left.
Small 4-pane sash at left on first floor, with sill and lintel
as on sash below; canted bay oriel window with 4-pane sash,
slender pilasters and roll moulded cornice over central shop
front. 3-storey building has No.10a on upper floors, with
first-floor oriel bow window renewed in late C20 flat glazed
units, and 2-light window above with mullion and transom, flat
stone lintel and projecting stone sill. Roof has stone coping
on left gable resting on moulded kneeler. End ridge chimneys
stone at left, raised in brick, and tall and rendered at right
both on ridge and on middle of front slope. Interior of
passage shows C20 door to No.10A. INTERIOR: not inspected.
