GV II

Terraced houses. c.1840. Developed by James Rhodes, and built
by William Beckingham, John Wilson and Thomas Allen. Yellow
brick set in Flemish bond, stucco, roof obscured by parapet.
Two storeys over basement, two windows each except 24A, which
has one. Basement and ground floor stuccoed, the ground floor
decorated with banded rustication. Round-arched entrance with
pilasters, some reeded, mostly panelled, cornice, fanlight,
and panelled doors of original design to nos 1, 2, 8 and 20.
Ground-floor windows round-arched. Stucco terminates with
first-floor sill band. First-floor windows flat-arched with
gauged brick heads. Sashes of original design, with radiating
glazing bars to ground floor, to ground floor of nos l, 3-6,
13-17, 18 (ground floor), 19, 20 (ground floor), and 22.
Stucco cornice and parapet. Stacks to party walls. Mansard
roof with two dormers to no 14, roof extensions to nos 1, 18
and 23. No 24A much rebuilt. Cast-iron railings to area.
