Terraced houses. c.1840. Developed by James Rhodes, and built
by William Beckingham, John Wilson and Thomas Allen. Yellow
brick set in Flemish bond, stucco, roof obscured by parapet.
Two storeys over basement, two windows each. Basement and
ground floor stuccoed, the ground floor decorated with banded
rustication. Round-arched entrances generally with pilasters,
mostly panelled, cornice and fanlight, panelled door of
original design to no 35. No 27 has a segmental-arched
entrance with canopy of the same profile; no 36 has a
flat-arched entrance with pilasters and multi-paned shop
front. Ground-floor windows round-arched. Stucco terminates
with sill band to first floor. First-floor windows flat-arched
with gauged brick heads and balconies to nos 29 and 30. Sashes
of original design, with radiating glazing bars to ground
floor, to nos 29 (ground floor), 33 (first floor) and 35.
Stucco cornice and parapet to nos 29-34 and 36, stucco to
parapet to nos 25-28, parapet only to no 35. Stacks to party
walls. Roof extension to no 31. No 25 much rebuilt. Cast-iron
railings to area.
