Pair of attached houses, now offices. c1710, restored 1992.
Render with limestone dressings, brick party wall stacks and a
pantile double-pile roof. Early Georgian style. Each of 3
storeys; 2-window range. A symmetrical pair with moulded
strips to the ground and first floor, a coved cornice to
moulded eaves; outer doorways have moulded flat timber
canopies with panelled soffits and narrow brackets, overlights
and 6-panel doors with raised panels. 9/9-pane sashes with
thick bars, narrow bar to the second-floor left-hand horned
sash, basement hatches; No.6 has an early C19 shop front with
a left-hand door and 8-pane window beneath the cornice. 2
hipped dormers. INTERIOR not inspected. A notable example
retaining original glazing to flush sashes, and coved cornice.
The contemporary and more advanced terraces in Orchard Street
had covenants excluding the use of flush frames and wood
cornices, following the 1707 London Act.
