Terrace of 5 houses, now offices. Dated on hopper 1721. Built
by John Price. Plasterwork by Joseph Thomas. Brick with
limestone dressings, brick party wall stacks and a pantile
mansard roof. Double-depth plan. Early Georgian style.
Each of 3 storeys, attic and basement; 3-window range, No.19
has a 4-window range. Articulated by rusticated pilasters
strips, broken out over moulded strings and parapet coping.
Doorways irreguarly spaced: No.15 between the right-hand
windows, No.16 to the right, No.17 to the left with a
left-hand narrow hall window, No.18 to the right and No.19
between the left-hand windows; fluted pilasters below scrolled
stone brackets to pediments, a broken segmental pediment to
No.19, wooden frames with rectangular overlights and glazing
bars, wrought-iron lamp-holders to Nos 15 & 18, and 8-panel
doors. 6/6-pane sashes in exposed frames, No.15 has keyed
stone architraves and 3/6-pane second-floor sashes. Low
segmental-arched basement hatches. 3 dormers each.
INTERIOR: entrance halls with panelled partitions,
fully-panelled rooms with cornices; fluted pilasters to hall
arches, and open dogleg stairs with steps to the rear from the
half-landings, column-on-vase balusters, moulded, ramped
rails, and wainscot; 6-panel doors, panelled shutters, and
carved fire surrounds. No.19 has a good open-well stair. No.15
has good Rococo plasterwork ceilings, probably by Joseph
Thomas, to the walls and soffits of the stair.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached wrought-iron front area railings
and gates with urn finials. Constructed to varying plans for
different clients, to common front dimensions.
