Hotel. Early C19, converted to offices 1991. Coursed clunch,
flint, re-used medieval carved masonry, gault brick dressings
and gault brick facade. Slate roof. 3 storey facade in 3 bays.
Central panelled and glazed door below a 5-vaned fanlight.
Doorcase composed of a pair of engaged Tuscan columns
supporting an open segmental pediment enriched with dentils
and guttae. C20 shop front to left; boarded bay to right (at
time of Review). Three 6/6 unhorned sashes light the first
floor under gauged skewback arches. Three 3/3 sashes to 2nd
floor also with gauged skewback arches. Gabled roof. Internal
gable-end stacks north and south. Rear is largely of coursed
clunch. North gable to Castle Street with re-used medieval
fragments: C12 colonnette rises through all storeys to left.
C12 fragments of chevron, colonnette bases and capital with
C14 tracery cusps are arranged picturesquely in gable head.
Gault brick tumbling.
