Two houses to centre of a terrace of 5 houses. c1770-1800.
Flemish-bond brick, steeply-pitched mansard pantile roof to
No.12, No.11 unseen, brick stacks to party walls; stone
coping, cornice, stepped stone voussoirs, cills, cill-course
and doorcases. Double-depth plans. 3 storeys with attics and
basements; both houses are 3-window range. Each house has
semicircular-arched doorcase to left with panelled reveals and
door with 6 raised-and-fielded panels. The second and ground
floors have 6/6-pane sash windows; first floor has 6/9 panes
to full-height windows, No.13 to left has a wrought-iron
balcony with some lead ornament to vertical rails. Attic
dormer windows are C20. INTERIORS: No.13 retains some reeded
cornices and dado rails; staircase has stick balusters and
wreathed mahogany rail and curtail step. No.12 similar but has
late C19 high dado rail and vertical panelling with added
moulding to hall and wall of closed-string stairs. Part of a
fine late Georgian square built on the site of Bridgwater
Castle.
