Shop. Mid C19. Painted brick, painted stone stepped voussoirs,
cills, platband; curved hipped slate roof continuous with
No.71 (qv), with brick stack to ridge. Double-depth plan with
rounded end to street corner. 3 storeys; 6-window range. The
wide eaves with paired brackets are over 3/6-pane sash windows
to second floor and a platband over 6/6-pane sashes to first
floor. Keyed semicircular arch to door of No.73. To
ground-floor right is C20 glazed door under an ornamental
semicircular fanlight and arch; to right, in St Mary Street, a
C20 three-panel door with overlight and stepped voussoirs and
to right of that a late C19 2/2-pane sash with 8/8-pane sashes
above. The other windows face the High Street with one range
on the curve. The main part of the curved ground floor glazed
with small panes with pilasters to sides and flanking a door
to left and a former door to centre of curve. INTERIOR:
ceiling of curved shop is supported by cast-iron columns with
Egyptian lotus capitals. History: the building is known as the
Round House and was formerly The Queen public house.
