Limekilns
II
Bank of four limekilns. c1800. For Sir George Osbaldeston. Dressed
limestone with herringbone-tooled dressings; squared limestone platform.
Interior lined with red brick with cream brick flues. Wall approximately 10
metres high, built against a natural bank, contains openings to four
limekilns. Round-arched openings of raised voussoirs with raised impost
band; raised band above; and coped parapet to top. Wall below raised band
is battered, flat above. Interior: tunnel-vaulted kilns with segment-arched
flues to rear in surround of voussoirs and quoins. An impressive example of
well-preserved limekilns.
