Town house. c1808. By William Wood, architect and overseer of
much of the development of Lemon Street. Granite ashlar
basement, local freestone ashlar above with dry Delabole slate
roof behind parapet and brick end stacks. Double-depth plan. 2
storeys plus C20 attic over basement; 2-window front.
Round-headed doorway, on the left, with 6-panel door and
spoked fanlight; first-floor sill string, moulded parapet
cornice and possibly original hornless sashes with glazing
bars under shallow segmental arches with projecting key
blocks. INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: original latticed wrought-iron railings,
right of doorway and over forecourt walls which adjoin granite
steps down to the basement. History: a house was first built
on this site c1803, by Hitchens, which was destroyed by a
storm of January 1804.
