Almshouses. c.1855. Yellow brick set in Flemish bond, stucco,
roofs of Welsh slate. In a Jacobean style. Two storeys, one
window each. There are eight houses, originally built in two
blocks at right angles to each other; they are now linked by
new buildings and a screen wall between nos 4 and 5; the
entrances are now at the rear of the buildings with consequent
alterations to the main facades. Nos 1, 3, 4, 5 and 8 each
have single-storey former porch with round-arched entrance,
now a window, flanked by pilasters carrying entablature; in
front of nos 2 and nos 6 and 7 are single-storey square bays
with paired windows, pilasters and entablature, presumably
former porches; no 8 has former entrance within the main
gabled wing, round-arched with pilasters supporting
entablature. On first floor, flat-arched, two-light mullioned
windows with stucco architrave, moulded cill, cyma recta
cornice and relieving arch, and 4/4 sashes of original design;
gabled roofs and side stacks. Stucco panels with Clothworkers'
arms in gables to nos 2 and 6.
