Circa 1896. Probably by J. W. Dyson of Newcastle. Wren Revival style. 3
storeys. 7 windows. Red brick with rusticated granite on ground floor and
stone dressings, cill and lintel bands to 1st floor, moulded cill string on
2nd floor, pilaster strips, modillion cornice and pediment. Slight quadrant
to Fore Street. Central pediment with parapet. Late glazing in sash windows,
raised architraves and aprons on 2nd floor, bracketted hoods on 1st floor.
late casements on ground floor. Central entrance with bracketted balustrade
to 1st floor window which has a broken scroll pediment; the window above, on
the 2nd floor, is blind and contains a heraldic device. Right hand window
tripartite. Each bay separated by pilaster strips over which the bands, string
and cornice break forward. Brick chimneys with stone mouldings and patterned
pots.
Nos 2 and 4 form a group together with the Midland Bank, Cattlemarket.
