Pair of attached houses, now one office. Mid C17. Render, a
central, brick and stone valley stack, and pantile
cross-gabled roofs. Double-depth plan. 3 storeys; 3-window
range. 2 gables each have C20 plate-glass shop fronts with
central doorways. No.41 is wider, with two C18 plate-glass
first-floor sashes and broader second-floor 2/2-pane sash, in
flush boxes; No.40 has a recessed first floor with paired
sashes with margin bars in a shallow bay, beneath an
overhanging second floor with a square 2/2-pane sash in a
flush box. Barge boards to the gable eaves; a central ridged
roof links with No.39. Pennant rubble base to the large brick
stack. INTERIOR: completely remodelled c1985.
