Bank. c1910. Ashlar with parapeted roof. Edwardian Baroque
style. 3 storeys; 7-bay range. Chanelled rustication to
open-pedimented projecting end bays flanking giant attached
Ionic colonnade to ground and 1st floors, and balustraded
parapet to attic storey. Ground floor has round-headed
plate-glass windows with archivolts and keystones with
cherubs; window to 1st bay has hollow-chamfered opening; 1st
floor windows to end bays have eared architraves and 18-pane
sashes, those to end bays in oriels on consoles with concave
sides, semi-circular open pediments above have
segmental-headed small-paned windows, stepped blocks above
have wreaths; attic storey between has plain surrounds to
12-pane sashes. Entrance to end bay has round-headed opening
with inset aedicule with polished granite Tuscan columns,
entablature with pulvinated frieze, tympanum with cartouche,
scroll work and panel, reading: BANK; inner entrance. Recessed
end bay has projecting porch with lettering over: METROPOLITAN
CHAMBERS. Iron railings to centre bays, part removed for
access. Right return to Lichfield Passage has 1st bay as end
bay to front, 2 bays as centre bays to front, and plain 3-bay
projecting block with dormers to attic. INTERIOR has late C20
banking hall.
