Former stable block converted for use as service rooms to the
Convent of the Epiphany (now Alverton Manor Hotel (qv)). North
and west ranges originate from the mid C19 build of the house
that was converted to the Convent of the Epiphany. The south
and east ranges are late C19/early C20. Stone rubble with some
stone dressings from the mid C19 build, some brick dressings;
slate roofs. Courtyard plan. West range 2 storeys; 4-bay front
with entrance to north and 1 gabled dormer. Ground-floor
openings under 2-centred flat stone arches; 3 ground-floor
16-pane sashes, 2 similar first-floor sashes, C20 casement in
gabled dormer, C20 casement above door. North range of 2
storeys, extended to the east in early C20, brick dressings to
extension, stone arches to ground floor of west end.
Ground-floor windows to west: 16-pane sashes, first-floor
windows 2-, 4- and 12-pane sashes. Half-glazed door at left of
extension, further blocked doorway at right. First-floor of
extension used as chapel has 2 Gothic pivot-hung casements.
2-storey south range has brick chimney at left gable end; C20
entrance on front at right, 3 first-floor and 3 ground-floor
16-pane sashes with brick dressings. East range single storey
with hipped roof and entrance at north end. C20 addition on
west side. INTERIOR: 7 circa early C20 clothes drying racks on
rails. Racks slide into drying chamber.
