Gates, gate piers and flanking curtain walls with lodge (ruinous) to rear.
c1820 by Jeffry Wyatt for Godfrey Wentworth Wentworth of Woolley Hall (q.v.).
Ashlar and cast-iron. Tall gate piers with Doric corner pilasters, frieze,
cornice and blocking course. Lower flanking ornamental round-arched pedestrian
gateways to which are attached curved quadrant walls with panelled ashlar piers
with shaped tops (only those to right survive). Ornamental cast-iron carriage
and pedestrian gates. Small lodge behind southern quadrant has main surviving
feature of doorway with architrave, apron and enrichment with 3 panels with a
raised shield to centre. Flanking ashlar piers have recessed panels.
Interior of lodge: 4 rooms aligned to the curve of the outer wall have some
standing walls and remains of 2 fireplaces. Linking passage has remains of
brick barrel vault.
