Large house. Late C18 with late C19 extension. Ashlar, hammer-dressed stone
to extension, stone slate roof. 2 storeys. 5-bay facade; 5th bay has two
1st-floor windows. Plinth. Central symmetrical 3 bays break forward slightly.
Doorway with architrave and glazed fanlight, approached up shallow flight of
3 stone steps, flanked by tripartite sash windows articulated by 4 giant engaged
Ionic columns which support ashlar frieze and shallow pitched pediment, the
tympanum decorated with carved festoon panel. 1st bay has tripartite sash. All
1st-floor windows have plain raised surrounds and 12-pane sashes. Ashlar frieze,
cornice and blocking course. Hipped roof with 2 ridge-stacks and one end stack
to right. Attached to left later extension with lower roof, not of special interest.
Rear: central 3 bays break forward slightly and have main feature of open porch
with ball finials with arched stairwindow above and blocking course above with
3 blind recesses. Plainer windows than front with projecting sills, some retaining
18-pane sashes others altered.
