Parish Church. Medieval, restored 1879 and 1887. Nave, chancel,
west tower, south porch. Mainly coursed flint rubble, stone
dressings, south wall of nave and chancel plastered; plaintiled
roofs. C15 square tower: 4 stages and crenellated parapet;
diagonal buttresses with flush work decoration; restored 3-light
west window, 2-light bell chamber openings, parapet with 2 bands
of flushwork divided by a string course. Nave with C15 windows,
2 to north and 3 to south; blocked C12 north doorway with remains
of arch; porch rebuilt 1887; C12 south doorway to nave, much
restored but with original shafts and capitals. South chancel
with 2 early C15 windows and C13 Priest's doorway; north chancel
with 3 late C19 lancet windows. C15 arch-braced nave roof of 6
bays; chancel roof with moulded wallplate and plaster ceiling.
Good early C15 octagonal font with well preserved carved panels
and stem; base step with original inscription. Nave with 18 C15
poppyhead bench ends, 14 of them with traceried panelling; 2
further poppyhead bench ends in chancel; early C17 pulpit and
holy table; Royal Arms of George IV over north doorway;
cinquefoil headed niche to splay of central south nave window.
North chancel with fine wall monument to Sir Thomas Bedingfield
(d.1660): albaster and marble, with flanking columns supporting a
pediment with 2 reclining figures; portrait brass on chancel
floor to Ann Bedingfield (d.1641); late C19 stained glass to
chancel and south nave. Graded I for surviving medieval work.
