1/6 College House and wall to
front garden
-

- II

Former farmhouse. Circa 1600. 2 storeys and attics to main range, 2 storeys
to rear: 3-cell lobby-entrance plan, with a later service wing behind, making
a T-shaped form. Timber-framed and rendered with plaintiled roofs: plain
bargeboards. A large, plain shaft surmounted by 4 chimney-pots to the
internal chimney-stack. 2-light and 4-light early C19 casement windows in C17
style: mullion-and-transome with small ovolo mouldings. 2 gabled dormers with
plain bargeboards and casement windows. A slightly recessed partly glazed
door with plain jambs, bolection-moulded frieze and flat pediment to surround.
A small single-storey lean-to with pantiled roof on the west side contains the
present entry. Framing exposed inside: ovolo-moulded main beams in both main
ground-storey rooms with plain joists also exposed to the west of the stack.
The service area at the west end of the front range has been remodelled, but
the housings for one diamond-mullioned window are visible. Reused and
replacement timbers in rear range. Adjoining the south-west corner of the
house, and surrounding the front garden, an early C19 low red brick wall with
rounded copings and a dentil cornice.
