8/32 Snipe Farmhouse

House, formerly farmhouse. C16 with C19 and C20 additions. Timber framed
with plain tile roof, probably originally thatched. Two storeys with
attic. Entrance front: projecting C19 wing at right with a blank gable end
to which a C20 has been attached. The left hand flank has C20 fenestration
randomly disposed with rendered walling at ground floor level and brick to
the first floor. The walling to left of this wing on the axial C16 range
has close-studded walling to both floors. The ground floor has a 2-light
C19 casement at left of centre and a 4-light window with moulded mullions
at far left. Blocked window slightly to left of centre. The first floor
has 2 single-light casements and one cross-window. Two skylights to the
roof and to the ridge at right a chimney stack of brick rebuilt in C20.
Attached at left is a lean-to porch. The gable-end walling above this has
close studding with reversed braces to the first floor and gable with brick
nogging infill. The right hand side has the gable end of the C16 range at
right which is jettied at first floor and gable level. The ground floor is
rendered and has a sash window of 4x4 panes and the first floor has close
studding with reversed bracing and brick-nogged infill with a 2-light C20
window. Similar close studding and brick nogging to the gable which has a
3-light C20 window. Moulded brackets below the first floor and gable
jetties. At left of this and slightly projecting is the C19 wing with
randomly disposed fenestration. Rear: all C20 fenestration set in rendered
walling. Three 3-light and one 2-light casements and a set of French
windows to the ground floor and at first floor level are five 2-light
casements.
