Terrace of 4 houses. Early/mid C19. Flemish-bond brick, plain
tile roofs with brick stacks to party and end walls, stone
parapet coping, cills and stepped voussoirs to flat arches.
Double depth plans. Each house is 2 storeys; symmetrical
3-window range. Nos 3 & 4 are stepped well forward and have
curved corners; Nos 5 & 6 are connected by a serpentine curve.
No.6 to the left has plate-glass sash windows without horns, a
C20 door and a vertical joint between it and No.5, suggesting
that it was added later. The other houses have 6/6-pane sash
windows. No.5 has an early C19 six-panel door with looped
cast-iron pendant knocker. No.4 has a late C19 door with 2
rows of 3 vertical panels. No.3 has a C20 door. Set into the
parapet between Nos 3 & 4 is a plaque with VALETTA PLACE in
raised iron letters. INTERIOR: No.3 has cast-iron grate to
first floor. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Nos 3 & 4 have an
English-bond brick front wall approx 1m high with bull-nose
capping; to right rear of No.3 is a high limestone rubble
wall. History: No.3 is said to have been occupied by a sea
captain and the name of the terrace is drawn from his
associations with Malta.
