16/12/74 Nos.45 AND 47
GV II
Two houses. Early C19. Flemish-bond brick with pantile roof,
stone coping and brick stacks to gable ends. Double-depth
plan. 2 storeys; 5-window range. No.45 to the left has a
gauged brick semicircular arch to a full-height recess; set in
centre at first-floor level is a fixed window with a smaller
but similar arch, thin glazing bars and small panes. Another
similar arch below spans the whole recess, a probable former
carriage entrance, now bricked up with 6/6-pane sash window to
the top which uses a segment of the arch. To right is another
gauged brick semicircular arch over a C20 door and large
fanlight with mostly square panes; above is a flat arch to a
6/6-pane sash. The 3 first-floor windows to right were
similar, the central one is bricked up with a small C20 window
inserted; the cill of the window to right has been lowered and
forms a tall 9/9-pane sash stair window to No.47; the window
to far right is a horned 6/6-pane sash with a blind window
below. A plate-glass shop window to centre of the ground floor
has 2 square panes at the base and 2 horizontal ones to the
top below painted-over full-width overlight with glazing bar
that reflects those above door; a simple fascia with a moulded
cornice spans the top. The right return has a C20 pedimented
doorcase and door to left. INTERIOR not inspected.
