House. Early and mid C18, with early C19 wing to left (No.27).
Flemish-bond brick with pantile roof and brick stacks to all
gable ends. Stone quoins to No.29. Double-depth plan with rear
wing to right of No.29.
2 storeys; No.27 is one-window range, No.29 is symmetrical
3-window range. No.27, probably built as a additional service
wing, has one horned 6/6-pane sash to the first floor and late
C20 wide elliptical arch inserted to the ground floor. To left
a wall containing the C20 entrance door below a segmental
arch, sweeps up half-way to first floor. No.29 to the right
has a brick plinth and platband; rusticated stone quoins; a
dentilled brick cornice below a probably mid C19 parapet;
steps up to a stone doorcase with moulded architrave and
stepped keystone, and consoles to the cornice; flanked by mid
C19 two-storey canted bays which reach and cut into cornice.
Above the door is a 6/6-pane sash; all windows to front have
flat arches and forward frames. To front corner of the right
return is a lead hopper head; to right of gable is a small
attic casement window; a large C19 stair window - a 6/6-pane
sash under segment arch is above a C20 entrance, now to an
upper flat.
INTERIOR: No.27 retains some early C19 cornices and
fireplaces. No.29 has part of the main rafters exposed, the
attic has been plastered over straw ; the mid C18 dogleg
staircase, between the rooms to right, has fretted ends, swept
handrail and dado rail, wreathed rail and curtail step and
stick balusters.
Landing on first floor has a semicircular arch with panelled
soffit on moulded imposts at top of the stairs, a coved
cornice, dado rail and skirting. First-floor room to right has
a mid C18 fireplace with an eared architrave below an
entablature and dentilled cornice. To rear end of rear wing
there are a chamfered cross-beam and traces of an open fire to
rear end.
Stone steps lead to cellar which is stone-flagged with central
drainage gulley and brick segmental-arched ceiling.
