House, now shops. Early C18 fronts to C17 core, with C20
restored wing. Painted brick; random slate roof; brick stacks
to rear. Central staircase plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, attic and cellar; 3-window range: late
C19, 1/1 sashes under brick segmental arches; moulded wood
eaves; 3 roof dormers with C18, 6/6 sashes under moulded
pediments. Two C20 shop fronts with doorways to centre of
building; the left having half-glazed 1-panel door under plain
overlight; the right having door with glazing-bars in moulded,
pegged case, under plain overlight and moulded flat hood;
brick band overall; ashlar sandstone quoins to left. Small
wing to rear, mainly C20 restored.
INTERIOR: No.4: late C18 dogleg staircase with turned
balusters and moulded string and rail, to attic; panelling.
Attic: exposed C17 framing; 2-panel door. 1st floor:
panelling; chamfered ceiling beams. Ground floor: C18 alcove
and panelling; ceiling coving. Cellar: brick and stone-lined;
C17 timber-framed partition walls; 2-panel door. No.4A (ground
floor): late C19 kitchen range; C18 panelling and overmantel.
