660-1/1/208 Barn immediately N of Newhouse
Farmhouse

GV II

Semi bank barn. 1844. For Thomas Phillips. Slatestone rubble
walls with segmental-arched openings; rag slate roof.
Rectangular plan with central 1st-floor opposing
loading/winnowing doorways and stone steps up to rear doorway.
Front has central loading doorway with hood and original doors
(also at rear) over wider, but slightly reduced doorway; small
doorways towards left (blocked) and right and later doorway at
far left. 2 slit ventilators to ground floor of left-hand
return. 1898 horse-engine house adjoins on right. INTERIOR:
original carpentry including 2 heavy cross beams and jointed
joists to floor; pegged lapped collars to trusses, purlins and
rafters; keeping places inside 1st-floor doorways and old hay
rack and feeders to central ground-floor bay.
