Farmhouse, formerly the farm for St Thomas Priory. c1800 on
much older site. Slatestone rubble exept where rendered to
ground floor of front and slate-hung to 1st floor of front and
left-hand end; simulating slate roof except for hipped rag
slate roof on right; brick end stacks and large rubble
external rear lateral stack.
Double-depth plan including rear outshut with pantry and
kitchen plus later well-house and dairy on right. 2 storeys;
symmetrical 3-window front. C20 two-light casements to 1st
floor; partly possibly original or early C19 three-light
casements to ground floor including 2 original casements with
thin glazing bars to left-hand window; 6-panel door with top
panels later glazed and flush-beaded bottom panels.
Rear has old casements under oak lintels including, of
particular interest, a C18 three-light wooden mullioned window
to ground-floor right with leaded glazing. Large chimney has
circular oven projection.
INTERIOR: original or early C19 features including: 2 large
fireplaces with bread ovens, another slightly smaller
fireplace to parlour, on left dog-leg stair with stick
balusters and chamfered newel, 2-panel doors, 2 simple wooden
chimney-pieces with late C19 iron grates, pegged roof
structure with tie beams and collars and pulley wheel for
former bell in roof space.
History: The parish boundary used to pass through the
farmhouse and when beating-the-bounds it is said that people
were expected to pass through the central light of the
mullioned window mentioned in this description. The former
bell was used to assemble workers on the farm.
