1894, by Harrison Townsend. Consists of narrow entrance building with large hall
behind flanked by corridor and secondary entrance modelled front of buff terra
cotta. Wide, round-arched doorway with small columns of polished granite. Narrow window to either side and pair of lamps on decorative iron brackets. Large, mullioned and transomed windows above flanked by polygonal turrets with shaped tops. Steep slated roof with complicated eaves. Elevation to Brushfield Street irregular.
1 and 2 storeys. Red brick and terra cotta. Entrance and most window openings
arched. Interior of building plain, with some glazed tiles etc to entrance lobby
and corridor. Hall lit by pairs of arched windows at clerestorey level with ornamental brackets supporting beamed celling. Partially recessed dais with organ above. Walls plainly panelled with wainscott below. Rear part not of special interest. Fort Street frontage of similar style and materials to Brushfield Street elevations.
