6/44 Shawell Manor

GV II

House. Early C19, C20. Red brick. Hipped plain tile roof with
2 stacks. Plinth. West front: 2 storeys; 3 bays. Central
doorway with 1930s porch with double doors. To left and right,
single glazing-bar sashes. Above, a slightly smaller central
glazing-bar sash with to left and right single glazing-bar sashes
like those below. All window openings have painted flat arches.
Attached to right, a single-storey C19 and C20 wing with plain
tile roof and tall ridge stack. 2-bay flat-roofed projection to
left has a large late C19 tripartite glazing-bar sash, with a
small late C19 glazing-bar sash to left. To right, set back
beneath a short verandah, a C20 doorway with glazed door and side
windows. East front: 5 bays, 2½ storeys in 3 bays to left.
Ground storey has from left to right. Two 2-light sliding
sashes, then a 2-light casement, followed by two by 2-light
casements, all with painted flat arches. Above, two 2-light
casements with to right a small plain sash, all with painted flat
arches. Above again, two 2-light sliding sashes immediately
below eaves, and to right and set lower, a 2-light casement with
painted flat arch. To right a small C20 addition with part-
glazed door and small window.
INTERIOR: several early C19 reeded doorcases. Staircase with
closed string, stick balusters, ramped and wreathed handrail and
tapering vase newels.
