Almshouse row. Circa 1929 by Maurice Webb. Red brick with plain tiled roofs, centre
and end ridge stacks; brick coping to gables. Symmetrical, 5 bays ABCBA built on a
curve. Parapets to outer and centre bays, brick coped gable to centre, quasi-pilasters
on plinths to ends of outer and centre bays. One three-light sash window in each
bay, one to either side of arched opening in centre bay. Recessed entrances to
either side of dividing brick pier, with planked doors to sides. 2 steps to left,
3 on right with iron rails up to the entrances . Central stone plaque to gable
dated 1929.
Chestnut Crescent was added to the original octagonal plan of Whiteley village with
the buildings in a similar style.
