Farmhouse, outbuilding and barn. Mid C18 with early C19
alterations; mid C17 barn. Brick with some stucco; barn of
timber-frame with brick infill and brick; tile roofs. L-plan;
farmhouse with outbuilding to right, which has attached barn
projecting forward.
Farmhouse of 2 storeys with attic; 2-window range with gabled
wing to left. Platt band over ground floor and modillioned
brick cornice. Entrance to right of centre has bracketed open
pediment and 6-panel door. Windows have brick cambered arches
over 16-pane horned sashes, one 12-pane sash to 1st floor
right; two C19 gabled dormers with 2-light casements;
ground-floor window to wing. Gable end stacks, including one
to wing.
Left return has gabled wing to left. Entrance to right end has
overlight to wide-board door. Windows with segmental heads or
cambered arches; ground floor has C20 casement window to left,
and window with cambered arch and 3-light transomed casement
with iron opening light; 1st floor has sashed windows, and
sash to gable.
Rear is stuccoed; gable to right of centre. Entrance has C20
porch and fanlight with beaded radial glazing bars over
6-fielded-panel door; canted bay window to left, other windows
have 16-pane sashes.
Outbuilding to right has granary to upper floor. Modillioned
brick cornice. Timber(?) lintel to ground floor,
segmental-headed entrance to left end and wide entry with
timber lintel to right with pitching hole above; 2 inserted
lights and 2 skylights. Rear has entrance to left of centre
with cambered timber lintel and later insertions.
Barn of 10 bays with later extension to end. Timber-frame with
brick infill on brick plinth, with later brick rebuilding and
extension. Inner return has 3 barn entrances with altered
doors; C20 open shed to left of centre; exposed square framing
to left end and diamond ventilation patterns to right end.
Outer return has exposed timber-framing and gabled porches to
centre and right, with catslide outshut between; open shed to
right end. Gable end has square ventilation holes.
INTERIOR: farmhouse: chamfered beams in former service area;
early C19 panelled doors and ceiling cornices; open-well
staircase has stick balusters and turned newel to foot,
probably early C19; early C19 hob grate to 1st floor; attic
has C17 plank doors and panelled doors, side purlin roof.
Outbuilding has heavy beams supporting granary floor and 7-bay
king-post roof with interrupted tie beams.
Barn has C17 tie beam and collar trusses with struts,
principals crossed at apex and trenched purlins; no ridge
piece. Floor inserted to end nearest outbuilding.
The house, outbuilding and barn form 2 sides of an open-ended
farmyard, the stable range (qv) forming a 3rd side.
