Pottery Farmhouse

A Grade II Listed Building in High Halden, Kent

Pots from the High Halden Potteries

Uploader's Comments

Pots made at the High Halden Potteries. The Potteries as it was known, not Pottery Farmhouse as listed here, are first referenced in the early 16th century, probably owned by the Paul family of adjacent Pot Kiln Farm, and largely made bricks, tiles, flower pots and other useful agricultural pottery, although producing some slip glazed domestic ware, with this tailing off in the mid 19th century as the factories in northern England took over the market. The potteries managed to survive until 1902, probably because they produces specialist items for the local farming market like pipkins, chicken pats, and cream crocks.
