House, probably originally a rectory. 1848-49 by Henry Clutton for William
Stratford Dugdale of Merevale Hall. Regular coursed rough-faced sandstone with
splay plinth: plain-tile roofs have moulded coped gable parapets with stepped
and moulded kneelers. Stone end and ridge stacks have square shafts with
continuous cornices. U-plan, with wings to rear. 2 storeys; 3-window range.
bauble-chamfered stone mullioned windows with horizontal glazing bar throughout.
Main front to garden has slightly-projecting gabled cross-wing on left. Ground
floor is treated as a bay window, of 1-3-1 lights to front, and single lights to
return sides. Splay string course. Window above of 4 stepped lights, the centre
2 lights having a transom, with hood mould. Second bay has a 4-light window with
hood mould and segmental relieving arch; 3-light window above. 2-storey canted
bay on right, of 1-2-1 lights, has steep pyramidal roof with finial. Ground
floor windows have transoms throughout. Right return side has external stack to
first floor. Lower wing to right is set back. Gabled porch in angle projects a
little beyond the left range. 9-panelled Tudor-arched door in stop. Chamfered
surround with hood mould. 2-light staircase window to right has central transom
and glazing bars. 3-light window has hood mould and relieving arch; dormer above
has 2-light window. One-storey range beyond has 3-light and one-light windows,
and a large external stack with splay and 2 shafts. Interior not insnected.
