Farmhouse. Probably C16 origins, possibly incorporating masonry from Merevale
Abbey (q.v.). Late C18/early C19 front range and alterations. Regular coursed
sandstone with some brick patching to rear wing. Front range has remains of
render. Old plain-tile roofs; brick end stacks and internal stack to rear wing.
Irregular T-plan with long wing to rear. Symmetrical front range of 2 storeys
and attic; 1-1-1 bays. Gabled centre projects slightly. 4-panelled door has
2-light overlight. Leaded wood mullioned windows with arched lights and pierced
spandrels, of 3 lights and 2 lights to centre and attic. All openings have
gauged brick flat arches and brick dressings. Attic has 2 gabled half-dormers.
To left return side irregular rear wing is of one storey and attic; 3-window
range. Large 3-light leaded wood mullioned and transomed window with wood lintel
on right. Small C19 windows. C19 dormers have 2-light casements with horizontal
glazing bar. End wall has external staircase to plank door. Interior:
straight-flight staircase, set parallel to front has stick balusters. Room to
right has cut-down mid/late C18 style carved wood fireplace. Room to left has
large open fireplace. Room to rear has moulded and carved stone fireplace
inscribed on left JA February and on right TL 1797. Kitchen in rear wing has
cross beams; large open fireplace has boxed bressumer with moulded cornice. Most
beams throughout are boxed. On first floor room on right has late C18 style
carved fireplace with husk garlands.
