House, now bakery, and attached barn. C17. Coursed squared stone, barn of coursed
rubble, stone slate roofs. 2-storey, 2-cell house, 2-bay barn. South-east front:
the wall of the house has been knocked through and a C20 range added (not of special
interest), quoins and a plain stone surround doorway being the only early features
to survive. The barn has a quoined cart-entry on left under long tripartite lintel
with the keystone shaped; above it is an inserted window; to the right a segmental-
arched mistal doorway. Rear: house: quoins: on ground floor a 5-light, now 3-
light, flat-faced mullion window to left, an inserted window, and a plain stone
surround doorway masked by added brick dairy (not of special interest); on first
floor an inserted window with plain stone surround on left, and a 9-light chamfered
mullion window with 2 mullions removed and 3-lights blocked; central ridge stack;
c1970 2-storey house addition on right not included in item. Interior: house:
on ground floor later back-to-back stone fireplaces with chamfered lintels, stop-
chamfered spine beams; tie-beam has mortices for studs in soffit. Barn: a single
truss with wall posts, one with tie to wall and braces to tie-beams and wall plate,
shortt King post block in apex, doubled principal rafters (similar to roof truss
in barn at Jack Heys Farmhouse (qv), Styes Lane).
