8/307 The Maltings
GV II
Semi-detached house. Early C17, faced in brick C18. Flemish bond
brick, tiled roof, gable-end brick stacks. 2-storey, 3-window.
Central planked door in C19 gabled porch, 3-light casement with
segmental heads and keystones either side. First floor has 2-light
casement with 3-light either side. Toothed brick eaves course.
Left return has two 2-light casements to ground and first floors;
this wall flint and brick bands. Rear outshut also flint and
brick, has moulded doorcase, central tile-hung stair turret has
single casement and hipped roof, to rear left is C20 2-storey
extension.
Interior has chamfered beams and exposed joists with step and
runout stops, reset wainscot panelling and plank and muntin
partitions, west open fireplace has chamfered lintel with rounded
corners, east fireplace has fluted and chip-carved surround. Rear
wall retains timber-framing. Winding stairs with octagonal newel
in stair turret, 6-panelled wainscot door to first floor. 3-bay
roof has two tiers of butt purlins. (Unpublished records of RCHM
