8/305 Chalkpit Farmhouse

II

Detached farmhouse. Early C17, faced in brick C18. C19 rear
extension. Flemish bond brick, half-hipped tiled roof, axial brick
stack and external C18 stack to left. Originally baffle entry, now
within later wing. 2-storey, 2-window front with 2-light casements
and blocked door. Right return has inserted C20 door, 3-light
casement to left and 2-light casement to first floor. Rear has 2-
light casement to right and C19 addition to left with 2-light
casement and C20 window.
Interior has deeply chamfered beam and exposed joists with step and
mount stops, open fireplace with elliptical brick arch, timber-
framed partition and C18 stairs. Heavy oak doorcase survives in
wall between extension and C17 build; former baffle-entry.
Formerly timber-framed. Details similar to Dairyhouse Farmhouse
(q.v.).
