Healds Hall
II
Large Georgian house. Early C.19. Ashlar. Hipped roof with
bracketed eaves cornice. Three storeys. Symmetrical 5-bay
facade with single storey wing to left and right. Central door,
up three steps, with moulded surround and pullvinated frieze.
Consoles support segmental pediment. Sashes to left and right
formerly with alternate triangular and segmental pediments, but
these now removed. 1st floor sashes with cornice, the centre
light having architrave pulvinated frieze and triangular pediment.
Smaller sashes to 2nd floor, the centre one with architrave.
Later addition to rear.
The home of the Reverend Hammond Roberson who was the model for the
Reverend Mathew Helstone in Charlotte Bronte's 'Shirley', and was
responsible for the building of several churches in the area.
