Late C16. 2 storeys. Timber framed with brick infil. Pebbledash to front.
Double roman tile roof. No pebbledash on projecting gable end to right of
centre. 2 ranges of 3 light casements to left of this. Gabled projection
has 3 light gable window (angle of gable altered to left) and modern window
to ground floor. To right of this gabled projection is a many paned 2 light
casement window to 1st floor and a 2 light casement to ground floor to right
of plank door with lion's mask knocker and semi-circular hood on lozenge and
quatrefoil trellis porch. Plank door in gabled projection too. 2 storey
brick stable extension to right. 2 small ridge chimneys.
Rear: exposed timber work, 9 bays. 'L' plan formed by 2 bay extension to
left built into hillside. 2 ranges of 2 and 3 light casements.
Interior: Room on ground floor to right of right hand doorway is part panelled
and has wide fireplace with Tudor arch and bread oven. Fine wide chimneypiece
in room to left of gabled extension on ground floor date 1591 with initials
'C' over "E.A." [Edward and Alice Cogswell] and wool mark and with a moulded
cornice. This room is also panelled with a bench around it and timber cornice
(enriched). Panelling upstairs as well and a very fine (partly obscured)
fireplace. Unusual stop chamfers to beams. In rear wing there are substantial
traces of dragon-beam to end corners of 1st floor level; vestiges of a similar
treatment in projecting gable to front.
