Farmhouse. Probably largely early C17. Sandstone rubble, timber-frame
with brick infill, graduated stone slate roofs, brick and sandstone rubble
stacks. Roughly rectangular plan aligned north/south. Two storeys.
East elevation has 1:1:1 windows, 2-light early C20 casements to first
floor and 3-light contemporary glazing bar casements to ground floor,
three unequal gables, the outer two with exposed timber-framed pattern
forming quadrant braces, the left one in brick, painted to simulate timber,
entry to left side of centre gable by 6-panelled door. Interior noted as
having heavy ceiling beams. Gables have decorative bargeboards with pendants.
Lower House Farmhouse was formerly known as Eyon's Farmhouse (RCHM Vol I, p 243).
