2/141 Langham Lodge
II
Large farmhouse, probably with C17 core, added to and extended, and
refenestrated in 1936 with windows taken from Exton old hall. Coursed
rubble with angle quoins, and stone tiled roof. Front elevation of 2
storeys and 3 bays, with central 2 storey projecting porch, also brought
from Exton, with double doors in 4-centred arch with ovolo moulded
hoodmoulds, a 3-light mullioned window above, and sundial in gable.
To either side of door a 4-light ovolo moulded mullioned window with
hoodmould, to each floor, and, at 1st floor level, the heads of former
sash windows visible as freestones. 3 tile hung hipped dormers above,
and stone gable-end stacks. House probably originally T-plan, but stem
of T (to rear) extended and given an outshut probably in C19, and now
contains further C17 mullioned windows from Exton. Inside, the plan
retains a large hall, with stone fireplace, and series of fine C17 carved
oak doors and doorcases, and a staircase taken from Beaudesert house,
N. Wales (now demolished).
