2/136 School Cottage and Old
Hall Cottages
GV II
Pair of cottages, with probable core of C17, formerly a row of several
dwellings, made into 2 and altered by H. Goodhart Rendel, in 1925.
Coursed rubble with thatched roof. A long range, with the smaller School
Cottage to the left, partly concealed by a modern extension containing
the entrance. Right of this, 3 16-light sash windows and 2 casements,
all renewed, though one has chamfered lintel with ornate stop. The
doorway is recessed with panelled rebates, and beyond it, in a buttressed
section of walling, 2 further casement windows. The building was
considerably heightened in 1925, and there are now 4 dormer windows to
left of doorway. The banded brick and stone axial stacks also date from
this time. To the rear, a projecting wing of c1925, assymmetrical and
picturesque with roof sweeping down to left, weather boarding in gable, and
a thatched polyonal turret wrapped round the right hand angle.
