Farmhouse. Late C17 with later additions and alteration. Timber framed
with painted brick infill on sandstone block plinth; slate roof. L-plan
consisting of hall range of 2 framed bays with 2-bay cross-wing projecting
to right. 2 storeys. Framing: square panels, 4 from cill to wall-plate
with long straight tension braces; collar and tie beam end trusses with
king struts and projecting single-purlin ends. Late C20 casements, 2 to
ground floor of hall range, that to right in position of infilled doorway
in angle between ranges, and one directly below eaves to right. Cross-
wing has two C20 casements to first floor and one late C19 casement above
tie beam to centre. Late C20 glazed door under lean-to porch to left with
contemporary casement to right. Roughly central red brick ridge stack
to hall range and external stack to right gable end, where hall range continues
for a short distance to right of cross-wing. Salop Fire Insurance Plate
between first-floor windows to cross-wing. C19 rubblestone lean-to to
right of cross-wing, partly rebuilt C20, and lower C19 lean-to against left
gable end of hall range. Interior. Chamfered ceiling beams and joists
to ground-floor rooms and timber frame (light square panels) exposed to
several cross walls. Partly infilled inglenook fireplace with segmental
wooden lintel to right gable end. Although the house looks a little later
a carved date "1623" is said to have been discovered to front during C20
restoration work.
