Very important position at top of Market Place. 1860s appearance though possibly it
could be what was once Stuckeys Bank, which was built here 1835. 4½ storey
ornamental corner block. Elizabethan features. Ashlar with cornices over each
floor and moulded cill strings. Fluted end piers with floral caps. Cornice and
corniced parapet, end finials, gable over rounded attic window with 3 diagonally
placed finials. 3 storey 1 + 2 + 1 light oriel. Original ornamental shop front with
arched doorway to left and 2 windows, left-hand one framed by barley sugar colonettes
to base of oriel on which is pediment with armorial cartouche. Spandrels of door
and end pilasters have relief carving. 4 bay return to Stony Street with similar
treatment, paired windows above.
