Description

SX 99 NE POLTIMORE
SX 963982
5/149 Bowls Cross Gatepiers
- (at SX 963982)

- II

2 gatepiers. C17. Granite. Upright, square in plan, each supporting chamfered
capital with moulded top, surmounted by a large ball. These gatepiers are
similar to The Bowles (Broadclyst, q.v.) which are dated 1681, but lack any
decorative panels; they marked the entrance to the Poltimore House estate, but
are not in situ, being placed wider apart than originally intended.
