SHERFORD SHERFORD VILLAGE

G. V. II
Farmhouse. Circa early C17 remodelled in mid C19. Rendered stone rubble and cob
walls. Hipped thatch roof, gable ended slate roof at left-hand end. Rendered
brick gable end stack. 2 rendered rubble lateral stacks with brick shafts at
rear.
Plan: somewhat altered but probably originally of 3-room-and-through-passage plan
although room partitions have been shifted and it is unclear which room was which.
Currently there are 2 rooms to the left with a small C19 wing behind that end and
C19 outshut to the rear. To the right of these 2 rooms is an entrance and
stairhall with a larger room beyond. At the extreme right-hand end is a room
which functions as an outbuilding. The 2 central rooms are heated by rear lateral
stacks. .
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 5-window front of C20 3-light casements. C20
French windows on ground floor to right and towards left-hand end. Leanto C20
porch to left of centre with circa early C19 glazed doors with decorative glazing
pattern. Rear elevation has a small wing at the right-hand end and 2 Cl9
outshuts. In the far end wall of the house is a door on the ground floor and a
tiny original wood-framed arched light on the 1st floor.
Interior: apparently much remodelled in mid C19 judging from panelled doors,
Victorian fireplaces and staircase. These may well conceal earlier features and
there does not appear to have been much damaging C20 alteration.
