Sawmill and engine house. Early C19. Hammer-dressed sandstone, Welsh slate
roof. Parallel ranges under M-shaped roof with sawmill to left and engine
house to right, 2 storeys, gable ends to road. Left gable end: double-leaf
board door with divided fanlight in keyed elliptical-arched surround with
imposts, flanked by low openings, that to left blind, that to right boarded
and formerly the point of entry for timber. First floor: round-arched
6-pane fixed windows in keyed surrounds with imposts. Right gable end:
3-bay pedimented gable with central gable breaking forward. 2 blind square
openings to outer bays. First floor: tall blind round-arched opening
flanked by round-arched 12-pane fixed windows all in keyed stone surrounds
with imposts. Oculus to gable end. Interior: sawmill contains circular saw
straddling railway lines with 2 bogeys, originally moved by pulleys, which
carried timber from entrance to saw. All power came from steam engine in
engine house. Brick extension to rear not of special interest.
