with semicircular head, approximately one metre high. Raised inscription
painted black against white background: 'TADCASTER & DONCASTER / ROAD /
SAXTON / CUM / SCARTHINGWELL' around head, 'DONCASTER / 24 MILES /
PONTEFRACT / 11 3/4 MILES / FERRYBRIDGE / 9 MILES' to north side, 'YORK / 12 3/4
MILES / TADCASTER / 3 1/4 MILES' to south side.
