Canal roadbridge. Early C19. Blue and red brick with sandstone coping;
parapet has alternate courses of blue headers and red stretchers. Elliptical
arch; parapet splayed at each end. Bridge no 24 as inscribed on stone at
centre of parapet. The Worcester & Birmingham Canal was built by the Earl of
Dudley between 1791 and 1815 and links the Birmingham Canal Navigations with
the River Severn. Its purpose was to supply coal from the Black Country to
the south-west Midlands. Offerton Bridge forms a group with Offerton Bridge
Lock (qv).
