7/14 Offerton Bridge Lock

Canal lock. Early C19. Mainly blue brick in English bond, with bullnosed
brick copings, sandstone paving and concrete repairs. Approximately 7 feet
wide; lock gates in full working order, 2 gates at west end, one gate at
east end. Steps either side of lock lead up to west end gates. The
Worcester & Birmingham Canal was built by the Earl of Dudley between 1791
and 1815 and links the Birmingham Canal Naviations with the River Severn
and its purpose was to supply coal from the Black Country to the south-west Midlands. Offerton Bridge Lock forms a group with Offerton Bridge (qv).
