1/20 Gateway to Melchet Court

II

Gateway. 1914 by Darcy Braddell. Brick with brick and stone dressings, old
plain tile roof. 3 bay with central 2 storey gateway and room over, each side
2 storey bay. In centre tall stone 4-centred arch with carved spandrels. Over
arch, with console corbel running down to apex, oriel window in stone, leaded
lights, tented lead roof, in gable with large console bracket and finials. Side
bays have on inner corner full height pilaster supporting console to gable, on
far corner brick rustications. Beside pilaster ledged door in small moulded
brick surround. On each floor 3-light mullioned moulded brick window, leaded
lights. Openwork brick parapet. On end 2 moulded brick shafted stack and
hipped roof. Octagonal stack on central ridge.
